  • ABV:

    48.7%

  • Excerpt: Here's the softer side of tepextate, with bursts of purple flowers, orange peel and pomegranate greeting the nose and palate. The back of the throat gets just a tease from jalapeƱo pepper and a sprinkle of black pepper, which are normally the dominant flavors of this species of agave, taking more of a back seat here.

  • Intro:

Made from wild agave strain Tepextate, this expression is mashed and left to ferment with wild yeasts before a two runs of distillation. Let's see how it is.

  • Nose:

Powerful. Ash, cigarette smoke, green bell pepper and onion. Faint sweetness.

  • Taste:

Sweet with lots of cream cheese frosting, some vanilla, confectioners sugar. Pepper, ashy and acrid. Faint plastic. Lightly vegetal, almost a faint woody note.

  • Finish:

Long, rich and sweet. Cream cheese frosting, ash, burning wood and a nice pepper note.

  • Overall:

Wild, fun, crazy. Sweet, ashy, Fun and unique. I really enjoyed this one.

  • Score:

    6
