I picked this up on my final vacation of traveling before COVID struck - Astor in NYC in December of 2019. This bottle has seen a lot of life changes for me in the last year+ and it's finally time to give it a review. I love Sierra Negra expressions typically, and this was my first.
Rich and creamy, lovely notes of cream cheese frosting, light brine, cotton candy, raspberry and almost a honey note. Bright, fruity, decadent, sweet. Pepper backbone to keep things working.
Rich on the palate, lots going on. Nutty, some ash and minerality. Wood smoke greets the sweet fruity notes to add complexity. Cotton candy fruits are hard to ignore here. Just wild.
Amazing, long, rich finish. Crazy how many fruit notes, savory earthiness and minerality features come out along that cotton candy sweetness in a finish that lasts forever.
One of my favorite destilado's in a while, this has it all going on. Big fan.
