This is a Tobala distilled by Jorge Mendez after Marca Negra changed their name from Mano Negra. Distilled in San Luis Del Rio, this is Batch XJM27-17 and bottle 1297 / 1330. Lets dive in.
Sweet apricot, pepper, clay and paint. Some light agave stank, but overall there is a really lovely cotton candy undertone and a big crisp pepper note thats in your face.
Medium viscosity on the palate but lots of flavor. Pepper and fresh baked bread are very prominent initially, along with some clay, some ash smoke and a hint of pineapple.
The finish is long and ash forward. Lots of smoke here - along with pepper, burning wood, minerality and clay. Not much, if any, fruit from the nose.
Overall, I like this but the complexity fades after you trek past the nose. Thats not the end of the world, but I really prefer more complexity, especially in the finish. That said, this is drinking quite well, and I think its pretty good.
