Distilled via clay pot in Saint Catarina Minas, Antonio Conejo Martinez produced this Barril for Maguey Melate.
Broad and powerful on the nose - varnish, sweet greens, string bean and a candy sweetness to it. Faintly fruity - almost a melon note peeking out there.
a bit of heat but once again complex and interesting. Faint garlic, some green onion, hint of salinity and earthy minerality. Ultimately very savory.
Long finish, rich with honey, a beef like quality, some pepper and more salinity. Rich vegetal notes hang back but are still present on the back palate and last for a very long time.
Overall, this is quite interesting. It’s powerful and complex. It strays into the savory and peppery domains far more than anything sweet or fruity - although there are elements. Very nicely done.
