  • Excerpt: Big and immersive on the tongue, the mezcal reveals complex layers of smoky, peppery barbecued meats, along with a chewy, sultry fruit note — again balancing its sweet and savory elements with aplomb. A stellar example of a punchier style of mezcal.

  • Intro:

Produced from a blend of Espadin and Cuixe (70/30) on the Garcia Morales Ranch, this bottling is produced on a copper still for Madre. Let's see how it is.

  • Nose:

Pepper, citrus tang, faint clay. Not a ton going on here, but what is seems fairly pleasant.

  • Taste:

Sweet at first, giving way to pepper and clay. Faint earth, nice charcoal and light ashy body. Lots of delicious pepper with some citrus.

  • Finish:

Short but enjoyable. Pepper, clay, charcoal and pineapple.

  • Overall:

Not fancy but solid. I appreciate that I could get a flask of this. It's fine, there's nothing wrong with it, but it's not super outstanding or interesting, either.
