Gracias a Dios Mezcal Con Pina

  • Distiller:

    Oscar Hernandez

  • Bottler:

    Gracias a Dios

  • ABV:

    45%

  • Age:

    NA

  • Price:

  • Raided Score: 71
  • Publication: Tequila Raiders
  • Excerpt: Sweet, lots of fruit here. Light pepper, pineapple, mango, confectioners sugar. Faint pepper. More bread, malty. Kinda bizarre. I’m sort of into it, but it’s weird and far less pineapple forward than I’d expect. It's a cool idea, but not an execution I'm crazy about.

  • Excerpt: The pineapple shows its face on the palate much more clearly, and while it’s understated, it’s fully present, showing a kind of grilled fruit character, then notes of baking spice (lots of cinnamon), brown sugar, and a light, almost peaty smokiness.I realize this is a wholly unorthodox mezcal that I wouldn’t choose for straight sipping, but in a margarita? Fuhgeddaboudit.

  • Excerpt: Tropical fruit aromas curl around scents of roasted agave and sweet mesquite smoke on the nose. The pineapple adds dimension, rather than dominating the palate. It mixes with flavors of rich, milk chocolate, earthy charcoal smoke and a hint of grapefruit zest.

  • Intro:

This is a somewhat unique Mezcal produced from agave Espadin by Oscar Hernandez, with pineapple and guava added between the second and third distillation. Let's see how it is.

  • Nose:

Sweet, almost bread like. Malty, musty, sweet. Confectioners sugar, pineapple, icing.

  • Taste:

Sweet, lots of fruit here. Light pepper, pineapple, mango, confectioners sugar. Faint pepper. More bread, malty. Kinda bizarre.

  • Finish:

Long. peppery and sweet. Malty again, which is a note I don’t ever get from mezcal. Lots of icing and bread.

  • Overall:

This is kinda weird. I’m sort of into it, but it’s weird and far less pineapple forward than i’d expect. It's a cool idea, but not an execution I'm crazy about.
