Is there anything to say about Fortaleza that hasn't already been said? First launched in 2005, Tequila Fortaleza has rapidly ascended to god-like status within the agave spirits community over past few years. We've previously reviewed two of the distiller's reposados — Winter Blend 2019 and Lote-69 — and found a lot to like. Let's see if Lote-116R lives up to the legacy.
Rich and roasty, plenty of butterscotch, pepper, toasted almond, caramel and a hint of cinnamon. Lovely.
Sweet and pleasant on the palate, moderate mouthfeel. Honey, lightly peppery and earthy. Nice presence on the palate, tons of brulee and a hint of cocoa and light oak.
Long finish, a lovely combo of tobacco, oak, brown sugar, lemon, lime, zesty pepper and clove, caramels and more agave.
Overall, this is a beautiful Reposado expression. It’s easy to be discouraged by Fortaleza’s popularity and difficulty to find, but the Tequila is easy to enjoy for any number of reasons. Good stuff.
