This is a Mezcal distilled by Valentin Cortes from Tepeztate agave. It was distilled twice on copper in 2015, in Santiago Matatlan. I tried this as part of the launch event for Dixeebe Mezcal, which will be coming soon to the states, I am told. Let's dive in.
Crisp minerality, limes, custard and rich sweetness with a rainwater crispness. It’s fresh, effervescent and bright.
Lightly meaty, enticing ash smoke, fresh vegetal notes. Scallions and snap peas, with confectioners sugar, pepper and balancing minerality. Delightful from back to front, nose to tail. Rich on the palate.
Long, a bit smokier here, with the veggie notes becoming a hair dormant here. Bright fruits, namely mango and lime, some pepper and a lovely faint clay presence.
I have no words but excellent. This is probably the best Tep i’ve reviewed yet, and it comes to no surprise to me that this is the handiwork of the revered Valentin.
