Distilled in Saint Catarina Minas, this Minero expression from Del Maguey was produced in 2016 using a clay still and carries an ancestral designation - recently snagged by yours truly in the backwoods of Wisconsin.
Bright and exceptional clay forward. Rich soil, clay, a bright grapefruit note. Some lactic sour character, bright citrus and pepper.
Complex on the palate - sweet and creamy at first, before it turns funky and acidic. Incredibly rich mouthfeel, almost reminiscent of a Pechuga. Grapefruit, honeydew, citrus, lime especially.
Long finish. Sweet cream, then turns to a drying clay, soil, pepper profile. Rye bread. Love the dryness.
This is all over the place, and when paired with the bonkers mouthfeel, it’s a total winner.
